Are you a Valentine’s Day lover, or would you prefer to kick it to the curb this year? Whatever your feelings about this particular holiday, you’ll definitely want to be buying flowers and chocolate for The Scarlett Heart – it’s a Valentine’s Day Cocktail we’ll want to whisper sweet nothings too! The name of this Valentine’s Day Cocktail draws inspiration from the classic book and movie, Gone with the Wind. But, confession time – I’ve never actually seen the movie or read the book, but I have passed the Margaret Mitchell House many times, that counts right?! But as The Scarlett Heart combines some wonderful southern flavours and has a gorgeous red hue, a southern love story about a woman named Scarlett just seemed like the perfect place to draw inspiration from.
“When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt” – The Prince That Was Promised is a delicious Game of Thrones Cocktail inspired by the prophecy and those characters that may just be this promised saviour. So, who’s having Game of Thrones withdrawals already?! I know I am! 7 episodes is just not enough, and now we have to wait until 2019 for the next and final season?! Not fair! But while we re-watch and re-read the series, I have made an amazing Game of Thrones Cocktail to tide us over, and help us along in theorising just who The Prince That Was Promised is! I have my ideas for sure, and they were who inspired the flavours and spirits of this Game of Thrones Cocktail!
This Grapefruit and Thyme Bourbon Smash is full of bright citrus flavour and aromatic herbs, showcasing the best of winter seasonal fruit. Muddled lime and thyme, combined with fresh grapefruit juice and delicious bourbon, it’s the perfect way to get the most out of those amazing grapefruits. This cocktail is refreshing, full of flavour and totally gorgeous – it’s the perfect cocktail to serve at any occasion.
I am so excited to share this Grapefruit and Thyme Bourbon Smash with you today, just in time for the weekend! I’ve had the idea for this cocktail floating around my head for many months, and I finally got it out of my brain and into the glass! The “smash” is a family of cocktails that are very easy to make and totally customisable. There are many differing views on how the loose the definition should be, but in my opinion all it needs to do is follow the formula of a seasonal fruit, a sweetener and a herb. These are muddled, or smashed, together – hence the name. You can either just use the fruit to garnish or you can mix fruit juice with the spirit you are using. And you can use pretty much any spirit you like, whiskey, I believe, is the traditional spirit of choice – but the Smash has so many variations, you’re truly free to use what you like and still call it a Smash!
A really easy and delicious red, white and blue layered slushy cocktail to celebrate the release of Captain America: Civil War! Whose side are you on? #TeamCap
Today is the day!!! Captain America: Civil War release day! Well in the UK it is anyway, sorry America! Yep, that’s right – us little British folk get the new Captain America movie before actual America! That’s what you get for throwing our tea in the harbour! Just kidding, I love y’all really! We seem to get most Marvel movies about a week before the US, I’m not too sure why but I’m certainly not complaining. Because I LOVE Marvel and the sooner the better, especially when it’s my boo, Steve Rogers! I couldn’t let the occasion pass without a cocktail in his honour, particularly when this film is Civil War – all kinds of crazy shit is going to go down and so I’m supporting my boy the only way I know how, creating a recipe in his name! The Captain America Slushy Cocktail is me shouting loud and clear that I am firmly in the #TEAMCAP camp!
