Woo it’s Day 2 of my Christmas Countdown. Yesterday I realised that I had as many Christmas recipes left to post as days ’til Christmas, so I’m posting one Christmas recipe a day up to, and including, Christmas Eve. Yesterday was amazing Spiced Caramel and today it’s this yummy Chocolate Peppermint Milkshake.

First off, I want to apologise for the terrible quality of these photos. It was a greyer than usual day and my iPhone just wasn’t having it. In related news, I was recently given a fancy pants camera, it’s second hand and a few years old but I’m super happy with it. I’ve been playing around with it and it’s gonna be a while before I get the hang of using it well, but hopefully you’ll see an improvement in my photography soon! All but one of these Christmas recipes was photographed using my iPhone though, so don’t expect that improvement until at least the new year!

Okay, and on to the yummy milkshake at a hand. I seem to have a habit of sharing recipes that are traditionally summery, but like ice cream I’ll drink a milkshake any time of the year no matter the weather. Besides, this will be a great recipe for those in the Southern Hemisphere – wonderfully festive flavours, but nice and cooling. I’m sure it’s about 173892 degrees in Australia right now so this one’s for you guys 😉

I originally called this an After Eight Milkshake because that’s what I used to make it, but I thought that some of y’all won’t know what they are (I don’t think you get them in the US) and I don’t want to you to miss out on this amazing milkshake! After Eights are pretty much the same as Peppermint Patties except the mint fondant filling is much thinner, as you can see in the photos. But in the US, you can substitute Peppermint Patties for the After Eights you’ll just need less (I’ll include a note on this in the recipe).

As well as the After Eights, I used dark chocolate ice cream, milk, peppermint extract and chocolate sauce. The dark chocolate ice cream is a must, you want about 70% cocoa ice cream. If you can’t get your hands on dark chocolate ice cream, you can get away with using milk chocolate with added cocoa powder – I’ll put a note about that in the recipe too. You also want the ice cream to be as a cold as possible when you put it in the blender, the colder the ice cream the thicker the milkshake!

Then there’s the trimmings, what’s a milkshake without whipped cream and chocolate sauce, am I right?

This is definitely a milkshake you’ll want to drink all year round, but it’s a great alternative to a peppermint hot chocolate around the holidays – kids and adults will both love it!

I hope you enjoyed Day 2 of the Countdown ’til Christmas, I’ll be back tomorrow with another yummy festive recipe! If you want these holiday recipes (and my future recipes) to come straight to your inbox, just enter your email into the subscription box below (and also grab your FREE ebook!)

A delicious milk shake!! Congratulations on the new camera. I bought one and still use my iPhone primarily because the only time I can get a good photo is outside with the camera and I need a macro lens I think. I think you take some great shots with the iPhone.

ooh oooh! I know after eights!!! (I tried not to be that person who raises their hand like a know-it-all, but failed miserably!) I LOVE after-eight mints and I can’t find them here! Yes peppermint patties are similar, but they’re just not the same!
This milkshake looks awesome! and I’ll have the WHOLE thing – thankyouverymuch! The Cream, the chocolate and the aftereight mints lying around it too!!
Congratulations on the new camera!! yay! I got a new camera recently too and I know the excitement of trying to get to know it… 🙂
